"The operation of the first immigrant detention center will be immediate"

After yesterday's approval to create three sites of temporary restricted hosting for illegal immigrants in Attica by the Attica Regional Council, procedures in the ministry of Citizen Protection are progressing fast.

The Secretary of Citizen Protection M. Othonas, speaking this morning on Mega channel, stated that since the existing facilities are in relatively good condition, the first center will be able to operate in 30 to 45 days.

According to him, the task of restoring the existing facilities (e.g. camps that are no longer in use) in detention centres for illegal immigrants will be a task for the Citizen Protection ministry.

It should be noted that Citizen Protection minister Michalis Chrisochoidis made statements yesterday on the same subject.
