A nation in ferment

It’s the final countdown to the most crucial elections in the modern history of Greece, with party staff and the political analysts trying to clear the foggy picture.

For the first time, the electorate will go to the polls in order to vote for the country’s next leadership, knowing beforehand that the final result will produce more problems than the ones it is supposed to solve.

“No one is aware of the outcome…” is the answer one will get even from high party officials, actually proving the fluidity of the situation. Everyone agrees that tomorrow’s elections are peculiar in many ways and able to change completely what we have all known since after the Junta years. Experienced political observers say that the people’s anger alone is strong enough to produce a totally unique result, which could surprise many.

Hours before the crucial time of the vote, many also suggest that voters who are facing of the dilemma of “complete collapse or an off-road trail” will choose the off-road route even if it is a hard one to follow. Thus, Venizelos and Samaras’ close associates speculate that voters will finally think and decide according to the day after and not based on their anger or the fact that they want to punish politicians.
