“We are certain that the Greeks will turn the page, leaving behind them the powers of destruction while creating the preconditions so that the day after we can be united and able to lead the country through a new course”, said Alexis Tsipras after he voted, casting his ballot at the 27th and 30th Elementary Schools of Athens.

He called upon the citizens to “build a new Greece. A Greece of creation, social justice, solidarity and dignity”.

Tsipras characterized May 6th a “festive day. A day of joy. After two and half years of barbarism, finally democracy is back to the place where it was born”. Moreover, he added that today it is the people’s turn to speak. The citizens will seal these elections, they will put down their signatures. Signatures on behalf of the people are invalid”.

The SYRIZA head expressed his certainty that “our people will send a strong message regarding a course change to the whole of Europe” and underlined that “the barbarous face of the memoranda has no place in our common European course”.
