Venizelos proposes a PM of broad consensus

Five points-conditions for participation in the coalition government were provided by PASOK President Mr. Evangelos Venizelos to ND chairman Antonis Samaras, during the brief meeting in the latter’s office, after the exploratory mandate the former received in order to come into contact with political forces to form a government.

Mr. Venizelos noted that he fully respects the decision of the Greek people and believes that PASOK is the third party in order to responsibly govern the country.

The first point is participation of all pro-European forces in this government. Mr. Venizelos characterized the participation of SYRIZA as needed and of course, the participation of ND.

As a second point, Mr. Venizelos said that PASOK does not set a condition of participation by government officials.

A third point is the prime minister himself or herself, who must be an individual enjoying broad consensus and showing a tendency and willingness to renegotiate. Indeed, Mr. Venizelos stated that there should be a negotiation with our partners on the memorandum and the loan agreement, with a prerequisite that Greece stays in the Eurozone.

Finally, the fifth point is to extend the debt based on fiscal adjustment without additional taxes, no additional horizontal cuts in wages and pensions. Also, in this framework, he requested the reinforcement of the demand for liquidity in order to unblock payments in arrears related to major projects.

As Mr. Venizelos stated, a minimum target of a government of national salvation is the extension of the adjustment time to 2015 without new conditions and liquidity support with at least 50 billion over the next three years.
