Tsipras’ answers to Samaras and Venizelos

Alexis Tsipras' exploratory contacts today are expected to lead to a dead end, as there seems to be no point of convergence either with Antonis Samaras or Evangelos Venizelos.

So the possibility of new elections seems unavoidable while the key players of the political game seem only to care about “blaming their opponents for resorting anew to elections”.

As a basic prerequisite, Tsipras has requested of the two political leaders to send a letter to EU leaders, withdrawing their commitments to implement the measures of the memorandum, a request that PASOK and ND characterize as a "pretext" for steering the conversation towards a standstill.

But Tsipras' close associates noted that "Samaras contradicts himself by saying on one hand that he would give his tolerance vote to SYRIZA and on the other that he believes Tsipras’ policy leads to disaster. How will he give a vote of tolerance to a government which he believes will lead the country to destruction?"

They say they do not understand why the ND president does not want the audit of the debt and the publication of the Blackrock report, while to Samaras’ message that "Tsipras will face the European right-center front" they answer that "Tsipras is vice president of the European Left, which is a solidarity power for the Greek people who are tested by the policies of Merkel and Samaras."

They explained that Venizelos "insists on the proposal to form a memorandum rescue government and not one of national rescue."

Lastly, Tsipras is expected to send a letter to Barroso, Draghi and Rompuy today, stressing that the commitments made by Samaras and Venizelos are void as their "signatures represent only 32% of the people."
