An ecumenical government with Tsipras until 2014, proposed by Kouvelis

The establishment of an ecumenical government with individuals enjoying a broader consensus was proposed by the president of the Democratic Left, Fotis Kouvelis, to PASOK president Evangelos Venizelos, who had received an exploratory mandate from the President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias.

This government, as Mr. Kouvelis stated after his meeting with Mr. Venizelos, will have a double aim: firstly, our stain the Eurozone and secondly, the gradual disengagement from the Memorandum, with strong public and parliamentary support.

A timetable for the government was set for until the EU elections of 2014.

Immediately after Mr. Kouvelis, the PASOK president made a statement, noting that the proposals of both parties almost coincide.

“The meeting we had with the president of the Democratic Left was essential. I found out that they have a specific and responsible proposal. Our views are close and overlapping, on overcoming the memorandum within the next three years and the improvement of conditions”, he stated.

Typically Mr. Venizelos spoke of a “good omen” adding that on Friday he will meet with Antonis Samaras and Alexis Tsipras. He also referred to the attempt to find a permanent solution in the council of political leaders, to be convened under the President of the Republic.
