The prosecutor charged the 24yo medical student, who shot and fatally
wounded an Albanian thief who had broken into his house in Paiania with
another fellow countryman, with voluntary manslaughter. After the prosecution against him, the young man will be taken to the investigator to enter his plea.
Speaking to reporters, his lawyer said that essentially this charge brings a penalty of 1 to 5 years and if the court takes into account the extenuation of a clean record, then maybe his client will not be imprisoned. He also said that the young man is in a very bad psychological position and explained to the prosecutor that what he did, he did it in a state of panic.
About 150 residents, friends and relatives of the young man had gathered early in the courts and when they saw the police taking him in handcuffed, they broke out in applause to declare their support.
After all, his neighbors speak highly of Nikos Davaris, saying he is a quiet young man who is studying at the university while helping his father at the latter's two tavernas. Both he and his brother have not given the Paiania community any reason for complaints, while the shotgun was allegedly legally and permanently owned by the young man, as he isa hunter.
As his lawyer Alexandros Alexandrakis says to protothema.gr, his client is devastated by the incident and said he had no intention to shoot and kill the robber, but in the heat of the chase he accidentally pulled the trigger and the gun went off.
