Samaras: “We will amend our programme in order to stay in the euro currency”

During a televised interview, ND head Antonis Samaras stressed the need for the formation of a national salvation government. He appeared optimistic, saying the power vacuum is nearing its end.

Asked about a possible coalition and who he would like to work with, Samaras said he believes a new autonomous leadership will come out of the next election battle this Sunday; nevertheless, he would not rule out the possibility of collaborating with others and he did not wish to set any restraining conditions. His main concern remains the stay of Greece in the Eurozone.

Regarding other EU countries with equally negative economic outlooks, Samaras underlined that Spain has five times the problem of Greece. “If we denounce the Memorandum, Greece will turn out to be the black sheep of Europe… and then the wolves will eat it”.

Samaras supports the effort of the renegotiation, adding that the stance of SYRIZA helps no one and nowhere.

ND wishes to change his group’s programme so as to create new employment positions and see the country remaining in the euro currency.

Speaking of the role of the prime minister in the present period, in case he ascends to the office, the party leader thinks his work will not be enviable as it would come during a very difficult time for the history of Greece.
