Herman van Rompuy announced that in the next European summit in late June he will present his proposals for reinforcing the economic integration of the Eurozone.

As the president of the European Council said from the podium of the G20 summit in Mexico, "in June we will begin a project which will be completed at the end of the year so that by December we will have shown that we do not have a mere monetary union but an economic union as well, which is something that will bring stability to the euro and the Eurozone."

He added that Europeans should proceed to a more integrated financial consolidation, as well as greater budgetary and economic integration.

In his own statement, European Commission president Jose Barroso argued that the talks with the leaders were "frank and open" and that there were calls for greater integration from outside the EU as well.

But he did not fail to show his bitterness against non-European members of the G20, saying "it is extremely interesting to hear leaders from all parts of the world asking the EU, and namely the Eurozone, for deeper integration."
