The
authorities are trying to decode the secrets of a stolen Opel Corsa
used in the raid at Alpha Bank Naoussa by the savage quartet. The vehicle, which was stolen from a car rental company in Athens, and the stolen license plates used by the perpetrators and belonging to an Opel Astra, is being thoroughly examined by experts of the Police Forensic Laboratory to find clues and DNA trace of the robbers, who are Albanians as the investigation so far indicates. They have been led to this conclusion by the fact that this car occupied the authorities in the case of a robbery at a Praktiker store on Vouliagmenis avenue in November 2010, in a wild scene with two Albanian perpetrators, a cinematic chase and three injured.
Police officers are also looking for traces of DNA on the clothes of the unfortunate taxi driver, Dimitris Michas, as according to eyewitnesses he fought with one of the robbers for about a minute and a half. In the case of the car, they are looking for passenger lists of the ferry companies to determine when and carrying which passengers it arrived on the island.
Strong police forces continue to comb the island to locate the den of the four thieves since as the hours pass the possibility that they have left the island in an inflatable boat seems less possible. Despite the search nothing strange has been found and even the three foreigners and a Greek who were checked turned out to have no connection with the case.
Everything suggests that the gang might be using a hideout in the area to wait until the “heat” subsides and the hunt cools off, since both at the port of Parikia and the Paros Airport investigations are quite thorough. At the same time they are thinking whether it might be the same group that on July 16 hit the Alpha Bank on Spetses, grabbed 500,000 euros and holding two female employees as a shield, disappeared in an inflatable boat later found burned in Porto Heli. The bloody robbery in Naoussa, Paros has many common elements and the police are looking at whether a woman was involved here as well. Also, they are looking to determine if the perpetrators were carrying any heavy weaponry since an eyewitness said he saw one of the robbers holding a large tennis bag.
Video and mobile phones
The dozens of statements from witnesses show that the perpetrators had a cool head, had studied the area well and were capable of anything. Otherwise, they would not have shot a man in the head in cold blood. Neither would they have shot indiscriminately to intimidate the people while shouting - as described by eyewitnesses to the police - "Get out! We'll shoot you, we’ll kill you!" The authorities are trying to determine whether they used mobile phones and came into contact with other associations as the fact that they had to shoot twice and even kill one person might have changed their plans. Meanwhile, they looking at the route the car followed up to Ambelas to see if there is there a camera that recorded their movements. For this reason, once again, the Police are requesting information from the public at 210-6411111.
They executed him in cold blood
The four robbers decided to strike at the Naoussa Alpha Bank branch on Friday, in mid-August, thinking they would find a lot of money in its coffers. So the three of them wore Bermuda pants, sunglasses and hats, and raided the branch at 8:20 am whilst a fourth accomplice waited in the car with the engine running. After grabbing about 40,000 to 45,000 euros, they exited the branch but the employees started shouting "Robbery! Robbery!" And so people in the area ran to the spot to see what was going on. A taxi stand is right next to the bank so the 53-year-old driver Dimitris Michas first approached the thieves and fought with one of them, who immediately raised his gun and shot him in the head three times. The unlucky man was taken to the health center of the island but it was too late.
