The three leaders seek a final agreement

Tomorrow's meeting of political leaders scheduled for 3 pm is announced as the final one towards the agreement of the government partners on the measures that have been concluded with the representatives of the Troika.

Prime minister Antonis Samaras will ask the consent of his governmental partners to promote the package of measures to the parliament for a vote in order to have the fewest possible reactions from members of the three coalition parties.

The time limits are tight, as we are less than three weeks away from Monday, November 12, which is the date of the Eurogroup meeting expected to give the green light for the disbursement of the tranche of 31.5 billion euros.

The government partners will have to reach an agreement within the week, for the fiscal measures to be included in the revised draft of the budget to be submitted in parliament before November 10. By then too, all the measures will have to be voted on, even the memorandum obligations that arise from the text of the second memorandum.

The big problem in tomorrow's meeting, but also in the ongoing negotiating process within the government and the consultations with the Troika, is the dispute with the Troika’s demands about labour issues, which DIMAR and PASOK have set themselves against.

DIMAR in particular insists that these measures are not memorandum obligations and therefore should not be promoted for adoption together with the fiscal issues, which were known and agreed upon before the elections.

The DIMAR representative responsible for finance issues, Dimitris Chatzisokratis, asked that the meeting of the group of representatives of the three parties that prepares the meetings of political leaders take place this afternoon in order to avoid any unexpected incidents in tomorrow's meeting. So far, however, the time and place of the meeting have not been finalized.
