DIMAR: We will not back off on the labour measures

The Democratic Left seems to be with one foot outside the government coalition at this point, as it insists not to vote for changes in labour and disagrees with the conclusion in the negotiations between the government and the Troika, as announced earlier by PM Antonis Samaras.

The Democratic Left seems to be with one foot outside the government coalition at this point, as it insists not to vote for changes in labour and disagrees with the conclusion in the negotiations between the government and the Troika, as announced earlier by PM Antonis Samaras.

DIMAR insists that the labour measures should be included in a different article from the other measures in order for it to be able to vote for the package. Given that the government does not seem to have room for something like that, all the responsibility falls on Fotis Kouvelis’ party and its final stance.

DIMAR members seem to have other opinions as well, such as voting for the measures to avoid causing a political crisis. Everyone recognizes that if DIMAR does not join the government line, then the balance between the government partners is dangerously disrupted, without excluding DIMAR’s withdrawal while maintaining an attitude of "discreet support."

If DIMAR refuses to vote, it will be the target of criticism both by the right for its unwillingness to support the effort at this most critical moment, and by the left, as it will confirm the view of anyone who criticized its participation in the government from the start as a hopeless strategy.

Concerning all of the above, the DIMAR parliamentary group will meet again tomorrow, Wednesday.
