Regarding the intentions of European partners toward Greece, even the most pessimistic SYRIZA supporters did not expect that they will be vindicated on their party’s prediction that the government is moving down a dead end street just a few hours after the passing of the harsh measures in parliament.
Regarding the intentions of European partners toward Greece, even the most pessimistic SYRIZA supporters did not expect that they will be vindicated on their party’s prediction that the government is moving down a dead end street just a few hours after the passing of the harsh measures in parliament.
The intention mainly of the Germans to delay the disbursement of the tranche of 31.5 billion euros is perceived by SYRIZA as a humiliating attitude towards the tri-party government and the parliamentarians that finally said "yes" to the measures. But more than that, it is interpreted as a development that turns Greece into a "punching bag" in the quarrel between Germany and the IMF. Thus, they are bringing back their older assessment that these measures cannot prevent the country's default while requiring society's bankruptcy.
The new setting, with the delay of the disbursement of the tranche being almost certain, via a blocked account nonetheless, leaves the government exposed on many fronts, says SYRIZA. "For a long time the government had been promising other things; it had allegedly earned the trust of our partners and that if the tranche did not come within a short period we would be destroyed. What do they have to say now?" a left wing member of SYRIZA wondered.
Party officials liken the government's image with that of a ship that has crashed on rocks and predict that the marginal parliamentary majority will not last long, as the tri-party government (ND, PASOK and DIMAR) is already a "pitiful minority of the people."
SYRIZA has set a new rendezvous on the streets this Sunday, the enactment day of the budget, calling for participation in the demonstrations announced by GSEE and ADEDY.
