Tsipras: SYRIZA is ready to govern the country

The proceedings of the Panhellenic SYRIZA
conference at the Peace and Friendship Stadium are in full swing. The debate continues with the top ranking members’ positions on moving to the structures and functions as a single party.

In last night's speech at the opening session of the conference, SYRIZA president Alexis Tsipras expressed the readiness of his party to take over the governance of the country "and to pull through, despite the fact that it will be in conditions of economic and social dissolution.

Tsipras described SYRIZA’s role in shaping the new political landscape, but also the influence it seeks to bring on the new conditions as he combined the political objective of undertaking the governance of the country with simultaneous SYRIZA action in society. "We are forming a party that will belong to society and not to the state and the system." He also launched an offensive against the government and the prime minister, accusing him of following the line of "whatever our lenders say", while predicting further decreases in wages.

The SYRIZA leader added that "we leave bureaucracy and such mechanisms behind us. We do not want a party that will occupy the state with assault, but one whose structure and procedures will mirror the world of work and toil. We want ideological hegemony to belong to the people."

The proceedings of the conference will culminate on Sunday with the vote on the election of the new central body.
