A giant police operation has been underway in a forest area of Krioneri since early Friday morning
to locate the four robbers who broke into a house in Nea Erithrea. More than100 police officers are involved, aided by a helicopter and the anti-terrorism team.

Police believe that the gunmen are not far from the scene and are carrying out searches to locate and arrest them. Earlier in the morning there was a gunfight with the four armed robbers in New Erithrea and Kryoneri, but the latter managed to escape by stealing
journalist Makis Triantafillopoulos' car and exchanging gunfire during a wild chase.

It all started in a house in New Erithrea, where the four gunmen broke in at 3.30 in the morning and grabbed a bag of money. The owners realized it and immediately called the police.

A short distance away, an Hellenic Police patrol car crossed the car of the criminals, but they shot against the police  several times
to escape. The police retaliated and started the chase while other forces were coming on the scene.

The robbers abandoned their car in Ekali, stopped journalist Makis Triantafyllopoulos who was passing through, took his car by force (a Porsche Cayenne) and tried to escape. But they did not make it as at the end of the Krioneri Avenue the car overturned and fell into a ravine. The four gunmen abandoned it and disappeared into the darkness.
