Exports increased by 13.8% in October

The general index of Greek industrial production increased by 2% in October 2012 compared with October 2011, compared to the 13% recorded during the same comparison for 2011 and 2010.

According to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), this change is due to the following changes in the indices of the industry’s subsectors:

- increase of the mining and quarrying production index by 15.8%
- increase of the manufacturing industries production index by 1.1%

This increase was primarily aided by the increase in production of oil derivatives and coal (48.6%) and basic pharmaceutical products and preparations (6.4%). In contrast, however, there is still a decline in food production (3%), beverages (9.5%), tobacco (0.3%), textiles (13.2%), leather-footwear (28.7%), clothing (8.4%), non-metallic minerals (18.8%) and motor vehicles (35.2%)

- increase in electricity production by 0.8%
- increase in water supply by 2%

The average ratio of January-October 2012 decreased by 3.8% compared with the corresponding index for January-October 2011, against a decrease of 7.5% in the 2011-2010 comparison.
