Schäuble: Greece is serious about reforms for the first time

In a characteristic excerpt from his interview with the German Press Agency, Wolfgang Schäuble observes that under the government of Samaras, Greece shows that «for the first time it has taken the implementation of reforms seriously».

In a characteristic excerpt from his interview with the German Press Agency, Wolfgang Schäuble observes that under the government of Samaras, Greece shows that «for the first time it has taken the implementation of reforms seriously».
The German finmin says that Greece has «significantly reduced its deficit and labor costs» and that reforms are on track.
But Schäuble emphasizes that «the great challenge remains for the Greek people as well» and while referring to the recovery efforts, argues that «when one has to face a difficult restructuring process, as in Greece, then the effort is associated with intense internal political confrontations and social conflicts.»
Overall as concerns the Eurozone, Schäuble believes that during 2012 there was significant progress and regarding Ireland and Portugal, stresses that the two countries «have increasing access to the debt markets.»
