Attica has been dressed in white from the wee morning hours today. The Penteli circular road is closed due to snowfall and fog, from the 414 General Military Hospital to Aghios Petros. Dionysos Avenue is also closed, from Anatoli to Dionysos. Schools in Dionysos and in Old and New Penteli are closed. In Western Attica schools in Erythres, Vilia and Hasia will be closed.

Snow chains are needed on the circular road of Katsimidi – Aghios Merkourios in Oropos. The old National Athens-Thebes Road is closed for heavy vehicles from the 4th km to Thebes, and traffic is allowed only with snow chains for private cars. Parnithos Avenue has been closed since last night from the Funicular Railway to the casino.
According to an emergency bulletin by the HNMS, snowfall is expected in the eastern mainland, Evia and the Sporades, and in mountainous and hilly areas of the eastern Peloponnese, the Cyclades and Crete, locally intense.
The temperature will remain at low levels with severe frost, which in northern Greece will be total in places.
The municipality of Athens has taken emergency measures to protect the homeless from the cold, using three of its buildings as hosting sites. Thus, from Monday, January 7, 2013, and as long as the weather conditions require, the following places will operate on a 24-hour basis:
