Unemployment in Greece reaches 26.8% in October

The unemployment rate showed a further increase in October, rising to 26.8% against 19.7% in October 2011 and 26.2% in September 2012.

According to ELSTAT, the unemployed in October 2012 were 1,345,715 when during October 2011 they stood at 977,614, recording an increase of 368,101.
The unemployment rate for women shot up to 30.4%, while for young people aged 15-24 it rose to 56.6%. At a regional level the biggest problem is now recorded in Attica with an unemployment rate of 28.3%, followed by 28.2% in Epirus and Western Macedonia.
The number of employed persons decreased by 309,335.
