SYRIZA is throwing in its weight to the support and escalation of social protests, especially after revelations that the government is promoting measures to restrict the right to strike. In any case, the main opposition party is preparing for the strike on February 20 and with the government's intentions at the forefront, hopes to form a large front against these settings from social and political forces alike.
Meanwhile, SYRIZA is closely monitoring the processes on the rural movement and declaring solidarity with the protests. It believes the farmers’ stance is a catalyst for broader political and social developments, while Alexis Tsipras is getting ready for his parliamentary battle as there is a scheduled debate on the agrarian problem on Feb. 26.
This afternoon the SYRIZA president will speak at a party event (19:30 ACROPOL theater, Ippokratous 9-11), entitled "Democracy, Solidarity, Social Justice. The Left responds to a strategy of tension."
Professor of Law at the University of Thessaloniki Nikos Paraskevopoulos, journalist Aristides Manolakos and actor/director George Kimoulis will also speak at the event.
