According to tonight's publications in the electronic editions of the German newspapesr Suddeutsche Zeitung, Der Handelsblatt and Die Welt, the European Central Bank is considering leaving the troika, which coordinates the rescue programs in the eurozone.

According to the publications, serious doubts are raised regarding ECB’s independence, as many sides believe that political pressure undermines its independent character and that ECB undertakes an excessively big political role, helping to coordinate the austerity programs.

The advocates of ECB’s stay in troika argue that the other two partners (European Commission and International Monetary Fund) cannot function alone, and that a potential exit would jeopardize the effort to rescue the euro.

Suddeutsche Zeitung also mentions that the German Federal Bank is among those who want the withdrawal from troika, while the economic Handelsblatt claims that concern within the ECB regarding the prospect of remaining or leaving the troika formation is increasing.
