Unemployment in Greece reaches 26.4% in December

The unemployed totaled 1,321,236, while the economically inactive population rose to 3,341,863
The unemployment rate stood at 26.4% in December 2012 compared to 21.4% in December 2011 and 26.6% in November 2012.
According to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority, the number of employed persons in December 2012 stood at 3,679,074.
The unemployed totaled 1,321,236, while the economically inactive population rose to 3,341,863.
The number of employed decreased by 208,953 compared to December 2011 (-5.4%) and increased by 40,316 compared to November 2012 (+1.1%).
The unemployed rose by 263,596 compared to December 2011 (+24.9%) and 4,584 compared to November 2012 (+0.3%).
The economically inactive, i.e. people who are not working or looking for work, fell by 4,584 compared to December 2011 (-0.1%) and 1,232 compared to November 2012 (no change).
