Kouvelis: Greek society cannot stand any more measures

Attempting to send a clear message to troika and the EU partners, a day after Venizelos’ warnings that the country cannot afford any additional measures, Democratic Left chairman Fotis Kouvelis stressed that troika ‘must understand and accept that the Greek society has reached its limits of endurance. It will not be able to withstand any other surcharges. The Greek economy needs development support.’

Kouvelis added there must be immediate implementation of the arrangements concerning VAT reduction in catering, increase of the number of doses for the debts of citizens towards the State, effective relief for households to repay loans by increasing the number of doses, lower interest rates and partial cut of the debt as well as a review and redefinition of the total price of heating oil.

‘The explosive dimensions of unemployment require the configuration of a social protection net without any delays. Social cohesion is a necessary element for Greece’s exit from the crisis,’ he concluded.
