Intra-party clashes in SYRIZA for Karamanlis

After Tsipras’ opening to Karamanlis in his speech at a Karamanlis Foundation event in the Athens Music Hall intra-party clashes have broke out in SYRIZA.

 

During yesterday's meeting of the secretariat of the party it seemed that some people disagree with these initiatives of Tsipras, and are very displeased because there is no prior briefing about such moves.

 

A member of the secretariat characteristically said, "we grew up learning that Karamanlis destroyed this country with his politics and his choices. How is it possible now to hear that he was radical in his conservatism?"

 

Other members talked about "symbolisms that produce wrong political conclusions." Indeed, Left Platform leader Panagiotis Lafazanis asked to take into account the position of the minority on issues of strategy and tactics.

 

Tsipras came under fire for his close contacts with PASOK members, due to the events of Gerasimos Arsenis and Levy institutions.

 

However, Skourletis was clear in his response to the dissidents: "Finally, what do you want? To wait until all the party’s components decide if and when they will break up?"

 

Another point of disagreement with the Left Platform emerged regarding the timing of the SYRIZA conference. Lafazanis and Ntavanellos requested a schedule change towards the end of the year and possibly beyond it, while Tsipras insists on the conference taking place in late June.
