A group of about 200 workers from Bangladesh who claimed their wages of the last6 months was shot yesterday afternoon in New Manolada. According to what the injured workers said to "Patris" newspaper, the workers’ group had an appointment with the employer and 4 caretakers, expecting to be paid. But instead of money, which according to their testimonies amount to a total of 150,000 euros, they received orders to return to work.
The foreign workers reacted strongly and refused to return to work when they suddenly began to be shot at. They allege that the three supervisors turned their guns at them and started shooting indiscriminately. Over 30 people were injured and scenes of panic followed right afterwards.
All ambulances of the county and some from the surrounding regions, a total of 11, began to carry the injured to the Varda Health Center whose staff were racing to take care of all incidents.
According to information from the Health Center 29 foreign workers were admitted, including some with superficial buckshot wounds who after a few minutes were released. 9 injured were taken to the Rio University Hospital, 6 of which were discharged. The other 3 are on a controlled state, but because they received buckshot wounds it will take a while until all the pieces are located and removed. 20 were taken to the Hospital of Pyrgos. 4 are still in the hospital and their health has stabilized.
