An explosion of an improvised device occurred in 4.40 in the morning in the Korydallos prison director’s private car, which was parked on Diomedes 3 and St. Barbara street in Daphne.

At 4.15 an unknown person phoned the ANT1 television station and the Zougla website, warning about the explosion, giving a time limit of 20 minutes. Although police were ten minutes earlier at the point, they did not know exactly where the bomb was placed, so they lost valuable time.

It destroyed the car under which the mechanism was placed, smashed windows in nearby buildings and caused damages to adjacent cars. A woman that was in her apartment was lightly wounded in her forehead.

The explosion caused a fire in the car which required an intervention by the fire brigade, making it difficult for EOD men to collect important information.

All indications point to a clockwork explosive device. Reportedly, police officers believe it is quite possible the attack was carried out by "Conspiracy of Cores of Fire" remnants or a related branch.

Currently, the destroyed car along with the data collected so far is transferred to the forensic laboratories.
