Tsipras against party components at the SYRIZA conference

Alexis Tsipras will speak to 3,500 delegates in the afternoon, declaring the start of the workings of the founding conference of SYRIZA and marking a new beginning for the area of the radical Left.

With this conference SYRIZA evolves from an allied into one single party, trying to turn into a political body able to undertake the governance of Greece.

Tsipras is expected to outline his plan for governance and to seek elections, accusing the current government for leading the country to a standstill and its society in dissolution.

Key element of the governance plan of SYRIZA will be to freeze the interest payment to Greece’s lenders for the next few years. The money that will be saved by this move is about 25 billion euros and will be allocated for the development and rehabilitation of the social ills created by the memorandum.

Tsipras will answer the crucial question whether this move can be unilateral if the negotiations with lenders were to fail and if SYRIZA would be ready to take the responsibility for the break with Troika.

Tsipras is expected to make an opening to social democracy and forces of the Central Left leaving aside the alliance only with KKE and other leftist forces.

In internal party matters he is willing to retreat in the matter of keeping the trends, with the right to a separate list in the elections for the collective bodies of the party, but will insist on dismantling the components, leaving only a small transition period.

To support this position, and a few hours before the conference of SYRIZA, Synaspismos will be dissolved, the conference of which will be held for this reason.

The party components continue to react and one cannot exclude even a break in the relations with some of them. The major problem for SYRIZA is the attitude of Manolis Glezos, who does not want to dissolve his Active Citizens and Tsipras does not want to collide with him.
