There is only help for Greece to help itself - If the country fulfills its conditions then comes the disbursement, the German Finance Minister said
"Greece has not yet passed the mountain," German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said in an interview on German Radio, and stressed that "there is only help for self-help."
"We have an aid program for Greece, which runs until 2014 and installments are disbursed in every three months, but first must be approved, after verification by the Troika. If Greece is fulfilling the conditions then we make the disbursement. Greece must move step by step, month to month, to fulfill further conditions," Schaeuble added and referred to the recent decisions of the Greek Parliament.
"Now, the country will actually have staff cuts in the public sector and they will not be just promises. This is not easy to do in Greece, but we cannot abandon it."
"Until we have implemented the terms, we cannot release the installments. The pressure remains. This has nothing to do with the elections in Germany," Schaeuble continued.
Ηe added that Greece should create an effective administration, particularly regarding the tax collecting mechanism and acknowledged that the country "is not on a bad track, but comes from a very serious crisis." He added that labor costs have dropped by 13 % and the country is becoming more competitive.a
