Greek trade deficit decreased by 3.4% in July

The trade deficit has been reduced by 17.4% mainly due to petroleum products
The trade deficit of Greece was reduced further by 3.4% in July, resulting in a further reduction by 17.4% in the first seven months of this year. It is apparent from the data of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) on the course of trading movement in Greece, that the main reason for the large reduction in the deficit is the petroleum products.
More specifically, ELSTAT announced the following:
The total value of imports amounted to 3,917.8 million euros in July 2013 against 3,816.9 million during the same month in 2012, showing an increase of 2.6 % (excluding oil products it showed a decrease of 129.1 million or 4.8%).
The total value of exports amounted to 2,376.3 million euros compared to 2221.1 million in July 2012, an increase of 7% (excluding oil products it fell by 89.1 million or 5.8 %).
The trade deficit stood at 1,541.5 million euros compared to 1595.8 million in July last year, a decrease of 3.4 % (excluding oil products it fell by 40 million or 3.4 %).
The total value of imports amounted to 27291.4 million euros in January-July 2013 compared to 28,708 million in the same period of 2012, a decrease of 4.9 % (excluding oil products it fell by 1,120.4 million or 6%).
The total value of exports amounted to 16104.6 million euros compared to 15,164.4 million in the first seven months of 2012, an increase of 6.2 % (excluding oil products it decreased by 256.6 million or 2.6%).
