SYRIZA: Only the people can ensure Democracy and normality

SYRIZA places heavy responsibilities on the Greek government for showing tolerance and complicity in the development of the Golden Dawn, after an emergency meeting at noon Saturday where, among other things the political opposition brought back the call for elections.

"After the latest developments we are turning a new leaf. The poliyical choice of tolerance to the neo-Nazis and the miserable theory of two extremes is collapsing. The obvious responsibilities of the Greek government are not eliminated. A section of the political, mass media and business establishment has fed and enlarged the monster of fascism.

Finally Samaras and his government do the obvious. Even after five murders and hundreds of criminal attacks. Everyone that now pretends to be surprised has enormous responsibilities. They are the same people who until yesterday showed tolerance and complicity. At every opportunity they used the
Golden Dawn to attack SYRIZA, citing the miserable and unhistorical theory of the two extremes."

SYRIZA notes that "from the first moment we pointed out that the Golden Dawn is not just a fascist political party but a criminal gang. Today we saw that Democracy and our current legal framework provide us with all possible means to put criminals firmly before the Law."

For SYRIZA "what matters now is to see this thing to the end and to decommission the parastatals and Nazi enclaves in the State apparatus." The opposition announcement adds that "SYRIZA were and will always be in the forefront of the fight against fascism, in the forefront of the struggle for the defense of Democracy. This struggle is primarily political and ideological."

It concludes by asking again to proceed to elections: "We urge the Greek people to isolate fascism politically, morally and ideologically. This is the only guarantee of Democracy and normality. The Democracy and normality that the memorandum government is unable or unwilling to guarantee, ad can only be guaranteed by the Greek people. The decisive blow to the fascist threat is Democracy, Justice and popular sovereignty. It is the democratic overthrow of memorandum barbarism."
