"Unpaid bills exceed 1 billion euros", the German newspaper reports
Ιn an article entitled "Pirates of the network" the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper of Munich refers to a social problem in Greece during the crisis, the inability of thousands of Greek citizens to pay for their electricity.
"Thousands of Greeks have been left without electricity because they can no longer afford it. Unpaid bills exceed 1 billion euros. Activists are linking the poorest of the poor back on the electricity network, although this dangerous help is a criminal offense."
As Deutsche Welle broadcasts, the correspondent of the newspaper spoke with Theodoros Marinellis, a member of a citizens' initiative undertaking the reconnection of electricity for the socially weak. "I know that what I do is not politically correct, but I think that it is socially just," Marinellis says and recounts a characteristic incident. "The worst I've seen was a mother who saw her child been sent back from school because it stank, as they said."
The woman had no hot water in her house, because she had her electricity cut off. Marinellis took care to restore the connection, Süddeutsche Zeitung adds.
