Greek trade deficit decreased by 13.6%

The downward trend is for January-September 2013 - Trend reversal in September

The downward trend in the Greek trade deficit was reversed in September, as it recorded an increase of 27.4%. During the first 9 months, however, the trade deficit continued to decline (-13.6%), while the role of petroleum products remains crucial to imports and exports of Greek products.

Figures from the Greek Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) for commercial transactions show the following:

The total value of imports-arrivals amounted to 4,025.0 million euros in September this year, against 3,729.0 million during the same month in 2012, increasing by 7.9% (without petroleum products it fell by 120.4 million euros, or 4.7%).

The total value of exports-dispatches amounted to 2,391.5 million euros, against 2,446.4 million in September 2012, decreasing by 2.2% (without petroleum products it fell by 19.0 million euros, or 1.4 %).

The trade deficit stood at 1,633.5 million euros, against 1.282,6 million euros in September last year, increasing by 27.4% (without petroleum products it fell by 101.4 million euros, or 8.5%).

The total value of imports-arrivals between January-September 2013 amounted to 35,252.1 million euros against 36,534.4 million in the same period of 2012, decreasing by 3.5% (without petroleum products it fell by 1,204.4 million euros, or 5.1%).

The total value of exports-dispatches amounted to 20,780.3 million euros against 19,794.0 million in the first 9 months of 2012, increasing by 5% (without petroleum products it fell by 287.8 million euros, or 2.3%).

The trade deficit stood at 14,471.8 million euros against 16,740.4 million in the first 9 months of 2012, decreasing by 13.6% (without petroleum products it fell by 916.6 million euros, or 8.5%).
