Tsipras will submit amendment to freeze auctions until December 31, 2014

The SYRIZA legislative initiative proposes absolute prohibition on transfer of loans from Greek banks to speculative funds

The filing of this amendment by SYRIZA serves the dual purpose of suspending the auctions until December 31, 2014, and the prohibition of transfer of overdue loans from banks to hedge funds. It will be promoted immediately as Alexis Tsipras announced speaking at the annual conference of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce.

Tsipras said "the issue of auctions will not be solved neither by meetings nor by blustering. Auctions are a danger for the foundations of society. Many overdue loans pass to the hands of speculators." He added that "the SYRIZA parliamentary group will immediately file a legislative initiative to ban the transfer of loans from Greek banks to hedge funds and give an extension to the protection status."

As Tsipras explained, his party’s legislative initiative will have two parts:

1)    will extend the auction suspension date until December 31, 2014
2)    will strictly prohibit the direct or indirect transfer of loans and overdrafts concluded between Greek citizens or permanent residents of Greece and banking and financial institutions legally operating in Greece to third parties, and any kind of claims arising thereof.
