Kouvelis: PASOK eliminates the Center-Left dynamics

"The exhaustion or not the four years of this government is related to the policies that will be exercised and the impact they will have"

In an interview with the “Efimerida Ton Syntakton”, Democratic Left chairman Fotis Kouvelis expressed the view that PASOK has accepted conservative choices and a strategy of aligning with the New Democracy. Asked about the possibility of setting a Center-Left core with PASOK, Kouvelis said, "choosing a common course with PASOK would change the political character and eliminate the political dynamics of the project."

Kouvelis replied on the time it will take to assembly the Center-Left area with the Democratic Left at its core. "In the European elections we will participate as the Democratic Left together with an alliance we will establish within the progressive pole with a demand for political change in Greece and Europe. The coming months the command of our conference will start being implemented."

In relation to the timing of national elections he said that "the exhaustion or not of the four years of this government’s term is related to the policies that will be exercised and the impact they will have. I believe that political developments will be accelerated."

Finally, regarding the possibility of the Democratic Left participating again in a coalition government, Kouvelis said, "we remain a ruling Left and part of the effort to exit the crisis. The policies of the coalition government should not be defined by the first party much more so when it has a minority appeal. This requires a broader consensus that should be reflected in the applicable policies. Programmatic Convergence, a binding framework agreement of progressive content, rules of the government’s function, avoidance of surprises and cooperative participants are some parameters of a successful coalition government."
