Dijsselbloem: Maybe Greece might not need another support program

The fiscal situation in Greece has improved significantly and any decisions will be taken in the second half of 2014 - Troika returns to Athens Sunday

Speaking at the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs of the European Parliament, Eurogroup chairman Jeroen Dijsselbloem said that a new program of financial support for Greece eventually might not be necessary. He added that the fiscal situation in Greece has improved significantly and any decisions will be taken in the second half of 2014.

Regarding the assessment of the troika he said the auditors of the lenders will be in Athens on Sunday and hopes that this evaluation be completed quickly.

Replying to MEPs' questions on the economic prospects of the Eurozone economy, the Eurogroup chairman said the prospects are improving and that it is sad that the program of Outright Monetary Transactions (OMT) is still a point of confrontation.

Referring to the low growth rates, Dijsselbloem said that Eurozone cannot reduce unemployment with such low rates and needs to find ways to stimulate growth. "In the Eurogroup we have discussed the fiscal adjustment, but now we must find ways for development as well. But every country has different problems and we need to find different solutions."
