The brief meeting of government vice-president Evangelos Venizelos and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, on the margins of the EU-Africa Summit, was an international promotion of the fact that Greece is turning a new page.
Venizelos said that they had a brief and substantive discussion ahead of Merkel's upcoming visit to Athens and mainly focused on the international promotion of the fact that Greece is entering the final phase of a definitive exit from the memorandum and the crisis.
He said that Greece's return to the markets will take place gradually and with great cautious, adding that it is very important for Greece to return to international markets and have the place it deserves. He also mentioned that international markets can understand better how things are getting on than the technocrats and our institutional partners.
Mr Venizelos also commented on the appointment of Supreme Court judge Fotis Kaimenakis as the government general secretary who replaced the resigned Panagiotis Baltakos by saying that Greece needs a good technocrat and a judge can work without being involved in political issues.
Referring to the EU-Africa Summit, Venizelos said that Greece had the opportunity to address the African countries with which it has strong historical ties, mentioning that our priority is to develop economic and trade relations with all the countries in Africa.
