Samaras: Our return to markets has exceeded all expectations

With the restoration of trust, the total borrowing cost of the country will immediately be lessened

“The sacrifices of the Greeks are working, we are exiting the crisis. We came so far with faith in the capabilities of the Greek, with a plan, with effort and hard negotiations”, stated Antonis Samaras during a televised message on the succesfull exit of Greece to markets. The Prime Minister, noted that if everything goes well, we will be able to borrow larger sums, which much lower interest rates. He also underlined that the trust in Greece was sealed by the most objective of judges: the markets themselves.

Mr. Samaras stated that we are leaving some people behind in misery and underlined that through this trial exit to markets today, we have opened the way for cheaper borrowing from markets, tomorrow.

“Two years ago, only a few expected we could make it”, said the PM, criticizing opposition parties and stated “We leave some of them to wallow in misery and wretchedness”

Next time, the country can borrow larger amounts with lower interest rates, added Mr. Samaras, explaining that we borrowed 3 billion this time, because we did not need any more.

With the restoration of trust, the total borrowing cost of the country will immediately be lessened, since we are saving hundreds of millions from the decline in interest rates and interest treasury bills.

“The cost of borrowing will not be raised, for the country”, he categorically stated, mentioning the fact that from now on, companies will be able to borrow in more favourable terms abroad.

“I want to thank the people, from the bottom of my heart, for their stance”, stated the PM and, returning to his criticism towards the opposition -without pointing any fingers- stated: “There are many who were not believers and mocked the process. Even now, they are miserably sad that the sacrifices of the people are working, it's almost as if they were begging for a new memorandum”.

“I also want to think all Greek Members of Parliament who supported the reforms and decisions in the country”, stressed the PM, saying that all was achieved

“But especially with faith in what we can achieve when we are united. We want the Greek people more united than ever. This unifying spirit made the coalition government work, and it will continue like this. This is what connects us all at this time, and this unity will be preserved above all”, concluded the PM.
