Samaras: We establish the future of New Greece

Venizelos lashes out  against SYRIZA on the occasion of the surplus confrimation: “We exit from crisis, but some people are sad instead of being happy” - New Democracy party asks Tsipra to withdraw the candidate Christopoulos

Following the Eurostat's announcement that the primary surplus is 3.4 billion Samaras made a declaration stating that: “Today's official announcement of the surplus confirms that Greece turned its economy around, thanks to the sacrifices of all Greeks. We are exiting slowly from the crisis and establishing the future of New Greece”.

The government team will continue to promote the achievement of surplus in conjunction with our country's return to the bond markets as well as the distribution of the social dividend as an argument that Greece gradually exits from the crisis and enters a recovery and growth phase.

The government believes that this perspective - unlike SYRIZA which argues that “this will put Greece in worse situation” - will be a great advantage in terms of gaining votes.

On the occasion of the surplus confirmation, Mr. Venizelos lashed out against SYRIZA saying that “due to the achievement of surplus and our return to the markets we exit gradually from the crisis. But, some people are sad about this instead of being happy” and predicted that “those who were against this policy will be in an awkward situation when the election results will be announced.

However, the representative of the European Commission, Mr. Connor, said that the discussions on the next aid to Greece will take place in the second half of 2014 and added that the Greek debt is sustainable provided the same policy continues.

But, while New Democracy stresses the success of economic policy, the leadership team of the party attempts to exploit the turmoil prevailing in SYRIZA.

The Representative of New Democracy, Anna Asimakopoulou, asks the leader of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, to withdraw Mr. Dimitris Christopoulos from its ballot paper for the European elections, who spoke on “compact Turkish minority”. According to New Democracy, the views expressed by Mr. Christopoulos will raise the issue of revising the Treaty of Lausanne.

The leadership of New Democracy argues that the way of handling the candidacy of Mrs. Sabiha and the positions of SYRIZA on minority issues have political costs for SYRIZA and discourage its potential voters.
