The long and difficult road to secure the fourth instalment of the support mechanism of the Greek economy will begin to be travelled on by the cabinet, at its first meeting today, after the agreement with the Troika and the new update of the Memorandum.
Chaired by Prime Minister George Papandreou, the meeting will discuss all the outstanding economic policy issues, emphasizing development, liberalization of the energy market, the use of state property and promotion of the privatization program.
Since last Wednesday’s wide government meeting, Papandreou called for acceleration of government work in all areas for the next three months and noted that after the fiscal adjustment, priority should be given to returning the economy to a growth status.
The aim is to have, by the end of this year, the legislative initiatives for the competition commission, the simplification of procedures for setting up a business, the promotion of the privatization program, the use of public assets such as infrastructure, ports, TRAINOSE, the liberalisation of the energy market and so on.
The five subjects of today’s agenda are:
1. Update on assessment and the pending issues of the Economic Policy Program - G. Papakonstantinou
2. Bill for alignment to directive No 2008/56 / EC (Directive on Marine Strategy) - T. Birbili
