The Prefecture gave the OK to the request of the Athens Traders Association, which is opposed by the medium-sized businesses but welcomed by the big Department Stores
The unprecedented proposal of the president of the Athens Traders Association to ask the opening of the stores on Sunday, December 12th, without asking first for the approval by the small-medium businesses, has brought the fury of trade members and workers unions.
«This is like opening the back door to multinational companies and malls, and an unprecedented provocation towards the same sector, which Mr Karellas supposedly serves», powerful representatives from the sector said at protothema.gr, who prepare for a motion of dispute at the president of the Association.
«Betrayal» said the president of the Association in the northern suburbs, for this proposal, which brings down every establishment in the market of small-medium businesses and adopts the positions of large corporations.
It should be said that the approval for operation on Sunday the 12th were taken by the Prefecture after Mr Karellas’ request in order to "stimulate the historic commercial center».
Representatives of large chain stores and multinationals praise this proposal stressing that «at last we have found an ally to our age-old demands. Congratulations to Mr Karellas who put the businesses before the workers expediencies» we were told by members of the Hellenic Retail Business Association.
Mr Karellas’ request receives similar recognition by H&M, IKEA and other multinational representatives, as they believe that an old establishment is fractured, creating a second line of resistance to the fixed denials of small-medium businesses.

Of course, the objections of the trade associations for the unbearable cost and the need to stay open 7 days a week are gone, after the historic consent by Mr Karellas.
