A gigantic trafficking circuit, organized according to mafia standards, was disbanded by the Attica Police following months of investigations.
17 people were arrested after several police operations in Athens and the provinces, 160 have been arraigned and are being questioned but what is really impressive is the large money laundering system this circuit was using. Legal businesses, off-shore companies, and real estate were set up or acquired with the billion euros made from trafficking, while it’s still unknown whether such investments have been made inother countries too.
Three circuit members were arrested in the past for lewd behaviour and money laundering, without going to jail though. Police information claims that the true dimensions of this case are still unknown as the whole operation was established with the aid of the Russian Police and is still under way.
As it became known, the Greek procurers were in contact with Russian "colleagues" and closing big deals with them; that is, the "import" of beautiful young women, who were later thrown into striptease clubs while being forced into prostitution.
According to an official from the Greek Police, the circuit controlled approximately 80% of the women from Eastern Europe, who were exploited by traffickers in Greece.
