Getting bribed for selling fake graves in a square!

Elected officials and municipal workers had set up a grave selling company in Aspropyrgos with fake city council decisions in an area that was going to be a square!

The inspectors at the ministry of Interior revealed that for two years now in the municipality of Aspropyrgos, elected officials and workers have been receiving bribes of 2,500 to 4,000 Euros for illegal grave selling, fabricating decisions of their own council!

The graves were not in the local cemetery but in area outside the city plan that «was expropriated for reasons of public interest and in particular to create a square, gardens and other public spaces and not a cemetery», as the inspectors reveal in their findings.

According to these findings, a particular employee, whose office was not in the building that housed the rest of the Department, accepted the requests for family graves.

The mayor «during 2008 and 2009, and in violation… was substituting the Board and illegally satisfying requests for the provision of family graves». The research revealed that the Board president had signed 23 decisions for 2008 and 46 for 2009, naturally without informing the Board.

The inspectors discovered at least 60 fake documents, while during the investigation and in a sworn testimony, the citizens involved admitted they received the fake decisions in return for even 4,000 euros.

The concluding report was forwarded to the Athens Appeals Prosecutor, and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against three elected officials and three municipality workers.
