Minister Papoutsis decides on Big Brother

CCTV is the new measure that will record images but also sound, as Minister Christos Papoutsis has decided. The data will be kept for one year according to new legislation that is to be passed in the next days, and the reason the Ministry of Justice is putting it forward is in order be in accordance with EU regulations.

Especially after drafting and passing an accurate and detailed law -that was also discussed in the ministry meeting- there will be a specific declaration of the use of cameras and the length of time the data will be available for.

The reason for this decision is that the data collected will help authorities with crimes, terrorism, national security, property rights etc.  According to the Ministry, this is a long-needed measure  that will help the work of the authorities a great deal.

However, the Ministry realizes the compromise of human rights and protection of personal data and is trying to find a way around this clash in legislation.
