Weapons fit for combat

Weapons found in all the hiding places that were raided last night by the police seem to be unmarked.

The guns have not been used in any previous terrorist attacks, and authorities estimate that if these hiding places belong to any of the two terrorist groups they had in mind, this means their members have another hiding place for their weapons.

"We are in the first phase of investigations, the second being the analysis in labs of evidence found in the appartments of Nea Smyrni, Kallithea, Piraeus and Agrinio" said the Police chief Mr. Economou, avoiding to name which the organisation is that they think is hiding behind all this. Police are trying to solve the mystery of the flat in the Agrinio area, where they have found Kalashnikovs, a rifle, a Zastava gun, a bulletproof vest,  silencers, bullets, marijuana, a female wig and two motorcycle helmets.

Also they are currently searching a NISSAN car found outside the flat in Agrinio, covered in a plastic protecting hood, that was bought together with the two helmets a week ago by one of the arrested persons.

In the appartment in Platonos street, Kallithea, police found many PCs, a grenade and a bulletproof vest; police are also paying attention to the two USB's that were found on Sakkas and Mitrousias, which might prove to be very important.

The results of ballistics from guns found in a 2nd floor apartment in Kesarias 22, Nea Smyrni, as well as in a basement in the same block of flats, may be the answer police have been looking for for to establish which terrorist group was using the hiding place.

According to authorities, revelations are going to be astonishing and the organisation is bigger than assumed.

In the flat, there were seven Glock, CZ and Baikal-type weapons, three Kalashnikovs, one silencer and three larger machine guns, as well as 4 grenades and 200 grams of TNT.

The very serious findings have police thinking this is a central hiding place for the organisation. Speculations are leaning towards the Revolutionary Sect or the Conspiracy of The Cores of Fire.

The breakthrough occured after the arrest of two young individuals at Themistokleous street in Exarhia, and half an hour later the apartment on Kesarias street in Nea Smyrni was raided, where two armed individuals were arrested.

There is speculation that a terrorist hit was being planned since on Monday there is the 2-year anniversary of the murder of student Alexandros Grigoropoulos. According to sources, 10 people have been arrested and there has  been an extensive search in 15 locations in Athens.

After suspect questioning, a second hiding spot was found in Praxitelous street in Piraeus, and after 7pm on Saturday streets were closed as police raided said apartment. An investigation is ongoing at the moment and revelations are expected by police in the coming hours.

Police are now examining the weaponry, while simultaneously trying  to gather evidence from the suspects in custody, in an attempt to solve the mystery of this urban guerrilla warfare.
