We welcome this weekend with bitter cold and low temperatures, while there’s a possibility that Attica might see the first snowflakes.
As it seems, the weather has decided to keep up with normal seasonal activity and from the warmest November for nearly a hundred years we jump to cold, snow, rain and storms in just one night.
According to the EMY extreme weather conditions forecast, we should expect a 12+ -degreedrop in the cold hours of the day, which means that a lot of… morning-type people might wake up to find themselves from 19 degrees to minus 1…
Until Wednesday, the weather will be mild with a slight increase in temperature and on Thursday we will see some local rain and sporadic storms. But the picture will change dramatically on Friday…
On Sunday specifically, temporarily overcast skies and local showers are forecast for western Greece and off the Ionian Sea. For the rest of the country, we are expecting local showers or sleet, mainly in the east and south, as well as snow on the highlands. Some temporary snow is also expected in regions of central and northern Greece of low altitude.
Sporadic storms will hit the Aegean Sea mainly during the morning hours. In the Ionian we will have winds of 7-8b and 9 in the open sea, with a gradual decline. In the Aegean we will have northern winds of 6-7b, also with a gradual decline from the north.
Temperature will drop to very low levels and during the night and early morning frost will appear in the mainland.
On Sunday, local rain or sleet are forecast for the Aegean and some snow for the mountains of Crete, while temporary showers will hit the Ionian. There will be better conditions for the rest of the country, with a lot of sunshine. Northwestern Ionian winds will drop to 4-5b with a gradual decline and the northern Aegean winds will reach 5-6b, and 7b in the northeast, with a gradual decline. The temperature will stay at low levels and will slightly rise only in the west, while during the night and early morning frost will appear again in the mainland.
Sleet and local showers are expected on Monday in the Aegean. Western Greece will see some local showers and mountain snow initially, but these phenomena will later intensify and hit the rest of the mainland. 3-5b western to northwestern winds for the Ionian that will rise to 6-7b during the night. Northwestern winds of 3-5b that will reach 6-7b also for the Aegean. The temperature will rise a bit but in the morning frost will appear again in the mainland.
