A three-hour discussion

At one o clock Mr Papandreou and Mr Erdogan emerged from their meeting after a three-hour talk. The meeting begun at 10 am and around 11:45 the ministers of Foreign Affairs Mr.Droutsas and Mr.Davutoglu joined the Prime Ministers.

Mr. Papandreou is expected to give a talk at the meeting of all Turkish ambassadors in Erzurum, which 180 ambassadors will attend. His presence has been deemed very important by all Turkish media.

 Finally the two PM’s will inaugurate the international winter games of all university teams, which 75 universities from around the world participate in.

In reference to the fence that the Greek government wants to build along the Greek/Turkish borders, the Turkish Minister of Internal Affairs mentioned “The construction of a fence will not solve problems; instead it will transfer the problem to other areas”. The Minister has reassured Turks that the construction of the “wall” is not an act against Turkish citizens. However, Ankara’s opinion is well-known and it is not in favour of the fence.

This comes a few hours after the President of the Democracy, Mr. Papoulias, sent a clear message to Turkey from Evros, where he has been celebrating Theophany day, about helping Greece solve the illegal immigrqation problem and implement the Greek-Turkish Protocol of Readmission.
