Based on the jet’s last-known position and in coordination with the FAA, we are focusing our attention north of JB Charleston, around Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion.

We’re working with @MCASBeaufortSC to locate an F-35 that was involved in a mishap this afternoon. The pilot ejected safely. If you have any information that may help our recovery teams locate the F-35, please call the Base Defense Operations Center at 843-963-3600.

Now that I got that out of the way. How in the hell do you lose an F-35?

How is there not a tracking device and we’re asking the public to what, find a jet and turn it in?
A "stealth" jet's transponder stopped working.

So the pilot ejected from a plane that was capable of still flying in auto-pilot mode? But then they couldn't track the F-35 because it's transponder didn't work and it is a "stealth" jet.

If you haven't heard, the USAF lost an $80 million F-35 over the US east coast after the pilot ejected (or the jet ejected the pilot) and flew off on some sort of autopilot. The military says they don't know where it went. pic.twitter.com/TP1P5KShBn

For anyone wondering the max range of the F-35 that went missing, here it is. The center is KCHS, right around where the pilot landed. The range of the F-35B is 900nm. pic.twitter.com/YAB79PHbuc

We have updated our post again with new info including this HC-130J track via ADSB Exchange that gives us a better idea of where the DoD apparently thinks the F-35 could have flown, or at least the direction it likely flew in.
